"Fantastico!"
Yanno, I read the negative comments on this outstading stick and they all seem to smack of storage issues. I smoke a boat load of these and they all rest in my humi for at least three weeks before I mess with them. My box stays at a rock-solid 70rh-65f and these sticks absolutely thrive at those numbers. As a terrible choco-holic, I find them fantastically satisfying, medium-to-full bodied and compellingly complex. Great cream and coffee notes, decent burn and loads of milky smoke. Everything I love in a good smoke. Highly recommended.

"Among the best ever"
This is one of the best cigars ever if you like a full body immensely flavorful cigar. It is equal to or better than Partagas Black, my other favorite, but the La Gloria Serie R burns down more evenly in the large ring sizes, where the Partagas seems often to be hard to keep lit near the end for some reason.

"A Good, Solid Smoke"
I thought this was a solid, full maduro. I think some of the complaints of bitterness are due to storage issues. For a thick maduro wrapper like this, the humidity should be at no higher that 65%. At 70 or higher, you will get a bitter tatse. In conclusion, store at a lower RH and I think this smoke will not dissapoint.

This is a well made smoke with a lot of power. Not for the timid. Lots of great maddie flavors like coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and a kind of toasty taste. Construction was dead on, no problems at all. I really like this smoke.

"Very smooth and mild"
The serie R is to be a full body smoke but the ones i have smoked have been very smooth and mild much to my suprise. The wrapper and construction are slightly rusti like all of the La Gloria's. the tase at light up is some what apple wood ( slight tart bitterness ) The cigar has a nice white ash some tons of a salt about halfway. A great cigar wih a beer. the ones i have smoked really did not seem to be full bodied in fact left a light aftertaste on the pallat. all in all a nice smooth smoke. The ones i had are kept at about 75 humidity and there were no burn issues to speak of.

"Amazing every-day smoke"
I honestly don't get the weak reviews on this smoke. I have been smoking these for years and have found them always consistent, consistently outstanding! It has a hardy maduro flavor that does not diminish as the stick burns. Very full-bodied, you know you have smoked an excellent maduro. Its only downfall is that you need to baby the burn from time to time to keep it even.

Overall a GREAT smoke for the price!

"great smoke and value"
One of my go-to favorites for "overall value" cigars. Perfect draw and good construction; I can't say great because of slight burn issues here and there. Well-blended flavor of coffee and slight caramel keeps me burning each one to the nub. Great maduro at a great price... if you are new to maduros, this is what you should expect from the extra fermentation...

"Are we smoking the same cigar?"
I have sat around and smoked these with about 30 different cigar lovers, and the word "harsh" has never come up. Even as we all approached the nub (which happens every time). This smoke will always be in close reach in my humi. For those who said it was too harsh...pair it with a good stout or porter (drink cool, not cold). Smoke it sloooowly, savor. Its a powerful smoke and the hotter it gets the harsher it will be. It is up to individual taste as to whether you prefer the natural or this, but this is what a maduro should be. Lots of bitter-sweet chocolate, coffee, and roasted nuts.

"Very good, nats are better"
These are pretty powerful cigars with intense flavors, not for the light of heart. Without proper storage, I've found several to be kind of bitter, which I think is reflected in a few of the bad ratings below. Great complexity of toffee, sweet maduro, coffee and very light tarry bits. When they are properly aged they lose a bit of strength and strangely quite a bit of complexity. I prefer the natural versions by far, especially when aged.

"Truly awful"
Well, probably one of the worst cigars I ever smoked...This thing was nice looking, but more or less the pros end here. Very uneasy draw, badly made and, more important than everything else, flavour was awful, bitter and harsh. Even if the price was not, in absolute terms, exaggerated, a truly bad smoking experience and, consequently, appalling bad value.

"Not bad, not great"
Beautiful appearance, and good pre-light aroma. I found the flavor to be pretty one-dimensional. It was medium bodied, with a leathery/tobacco flavor. Not bad, just not that interesting. Construction was good until the last third, when I got some tunneling, though this was rectified with a little welding job with the lighter. Will try again, as maybe this was just a bad stick.

"Delicious."
Wow. First off, this guy is gorgeous. The wrapper looks like it should have been used to make a bomber jacket. The construction is impecible, firm with just a little give, yet the draw is smooth, if ever so slightly tight (this is the only remotely negative thing I have to say about the entire experience and the only reason it gets those two '8's). It smoked slow, cool and even down to the band (which took me something like 90 minutes to get to). The flavor was ever so slightly a tad bit harsh only while I was actually lighting it. After that t calmed down beautifully! Leathery, creamy and nutty (I almost want to say specifically like a Brzil Nut, but that may be the subconcious influence of the wrapper color talking) with a nice layer of spice throughout. The creamy leather-nuttiness got more pronounced as I worked my way down, but the spice never became overpowering. The slight aftertaste I have left is utterly pleasant. Many "full bodied" cigars leave me wanting mouthwash at the end, however the thought never even occured to me while smoking this beauty. I recently smoked a pair of Cuban LGCs while overseas, and I don't think they had anything on this cigar. The bang for the buck is incredible for this baby!

"Smooth sailin'; the epitamy of"
I'm suprised to see the word "harsh" so often repetead with regards to this cigar...perhaps consistency is an issue. The box I got anyway is anything but-of the four I've smoked aso far, they've all been very very smooth. I've also smoked several singles from various time periods out of different boxes from my local cigar shop...none were even close to "harsh." That being said, i'm rarely in the mood for this cigar, but I do enjoy them on a hot day along side a microbrewed rootbeer, the creamy chocolatey-leather flavors are really highlighted that way....if you like the serie R, you should try it with a good rootbeer! For this flavor profile, I find myself often smoking the Cusano 18 paired maduro over the LGCs (which BTW is the only Cusano I've EVER enjoyed, a black sheep, but a very good one!) because I tend to gravitate towards more strength in both flavor and power...but when I'm feeling in the mood for a lighter, creamier smoke, this one always satisfies...slow burning as any good maduro shoud be, although it takes experience to tend to the burn of such a large ring gauge...I'd imagine if you were drinking coffee or espresso, it would be hard to taste the cigar...very mild. Leaves a great aftertaste that lasts a long time. All in all, a great cigar for what it's trying to be, but it doesn't blow my socks off, but hey, sometimes my feet get cold....to each his own.

"A tale of two tastes"
On one hand...a nice spicy, chocolate leather uppercut to the palate. On the other hand...it was bordering on harsh and unpleasurable. A good quality cigar, for sure. Flavor wise, the profile was strong and complex. It was unbalanced and burned unevenly...but it definitely had some high points. Good...but not great. I would spark a Padron, El Rey or a few other Maduros before this one.

"Meh....."
Excellent construction, burn and draw. Reminds me of biting into a dark chocolate candy bar. Bitter at first but becomes more mellow down the stick. I prefer my cigars, especially maddies, to have more complexity and body. This has virtually none of that. Certainly not a bad tasting cigar but at $6.80/stick at my local tobacconist I expect more. Slightly better than the LGC Wavell maddies.

"A man's cigar"
What more can I add to what has already been said about the LGC Series R cigars? This imposing and dark looking cigar is very earthy but very pleasant. The worst thing I can say about it is that it didn't burn very evenly but that's a flaw that I would willingly overlook in order to enjoy everything else about this cigar. It is medium-bodied, maybe not as strong as it's perceived but it's definitely not a beginner's cigar. I liked it more than some of its peers such as HDM's Dark Sumatra Series or Punch's Grand Puro series.

I have bought a box of these...smoked 5 of them this week. This cigar is definitely a powerhouse...but this isn't one that is going to kick your butt. The construction was above average on these...some soft spots on 2 of the 3 this week...but no problem...a little nick with the lighter and all is well. The flavor is superb. While LGC's can sometimes be inconsistent in flavor...apparently this crop of tobacco was very high quality. Burn was perfect...taste was top notch. I can't say enough about this...it's a beauty all around. The oily maduro wrapper only adds to my admiration of this. DEFINITELY a strong buy suggestion on my part...especially if you like fuller bodied cigars.

"mediocre"
La Gloria's define mediocre cigars, always well constructed and consistent but very one dimensional. The Series R maduro is no exception. This cigar was a real smoke wagon with excellent draw. Flavor, however, was somehow off. Despite what I was told by the Tobacconist the cigar was not particularly harsh or strong. Just very lacking in character, body and flavor. I would not purchase another one.

"Disappointed"
This was a really handsome cigar, but it burned poorly, tasted dirty and pretty much stunk as it burned. Flavors were chalky and rough. Some redeming notes of sweetness and character -- but too little, too late.

"As good as it gets"
Remove your smoke detector for this baby! A black oily wrapper begging to burn. Excellent draw and very rich with that woody leathery complex taste, that doesn't lack depth. One of LGC's finest!

"Humidor candy"
Nice full body, even burn and plenty of smoke. Looks great with a dark oily wrapper. Burnred evenly with an ask that held better than half way through. A little tight to start but then opened up.

"Wonderful"
Reduce the size only slightly and this would be my ideal smoke. Nice balanced power, good volume of smoke and great taste.

"Good cigar"
Nicely constucted medium strength cigar which offered consistent flavors of dark coffee, leather, and nicely spiced. Kept me amused for a while.
