The New Wave Connecticut was introduced in 2011 as Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's deliberate effort to redefine the Connecticut cigar — not a mild, uneventful smoke, but a rich, complex, and surprisingly spicy cigar that happens to be wrapped in an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade leaf. The wrapper is grown in Ecuador's natural cloud cover that mimics shade conditions, resulting in a light tan, silky leaf. The binder is Nicaraguan and the filler is a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The result is a mild to medium-bodied cigar with creamy notes of cedar, leather, and gentle spice that earned a 91-point rating. Box-pressed in four sizes, made at the Casa Carrillo factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
