The Stanford's line within Cuesta-Rey is a tribute to Stanford Newman, the longtime patriarch of J.C. Newman Cigar Co. who shepherded both the Newman family business and the Cuesta-Rey brand through some of the most turbulent decades in American cigar history — from the Cuban embargo to the cigar bust of the 1970s and 80s to the great boom of the 1990s. Made at the Arturo Fuente factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic, the Stanford's sub-line reflects the premium quality standard that Stanford Newman insisted upon when he partnered with Carlos Fuente Sr. to move Cuesta-Rey production to the Dominican Republic in the late 1980s.
