Diplomaticos (Cuba)

Diplomaticos was created in the early 1970s by Cubatabaco specifically for the French market, making it one of the few Cuban brands born entirely out of a commercial export arrangement rather than an established pre-revolution heritage. What makes it particularly interesting to enthusiasts is that the cigars are made at El Laguito, the same legendary factory responsible for Cohiba, using tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region that are widely regarded as among the finest in Cuba. The blends closely mirror several classic Montecristo vitolas, which has led many to describe Diplomaticos as something of a backdoor into the Montecristo profile at a slightly lower price point. Despite that pedigree, the brand has never received the attention or accolades of its more famous stablemates, which makes it something of a hidden gem for Cuban cigar enthusiasts who know where to look.
