Excalibur 1066

Excalibur 1066 is part of the Hoyo de Monterrey family of brands, built on the foundation laid by Frank Llaneza's Villazon & Company in Honduras, the same operation responsible for introducing Hoyo de Monterrey to the American market in 1969. The Excalibur line grew out of the Hoyo portfolio as a fuller-bodied, more characterful alternative, eventually becoming its own distinct brand. The 1066 takes its name from the Battle of Hastings and the legend of King Arthur's sword, and its vitola names, Galahad, King Arthur, Lancelot, and Merlin carry the medieval theme throughout. The core lineup uses a Cameroon wrapper over a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a filler blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobaccos, producing a medium-to-fuller-bodied cigar with the earthy sweetness that Cameroon leaf contributes. The Dark Knight vitolas take a different direction, using a Connecticut shade wrapper for a milder character. Originally produced at the Villazon factory in Cofradia, Honduras under the blending supervision of Estelo Padrón, the brand passed to General Cigar when they acquired Villazon in 1996 and later became part of the Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
