Griffin's was created in 1984 by Bernard Grobet, a Swiss entrepreneur who named the brand after his Griffin's Club nightclub in Geneva. Grobet was a close friend of Zino Davidoff, who saw the potential in the brand and distributed it under the Davidoff umbrella before Oettinger Davidoff AG formally acquired it in 2004. The brand was built on the idea of offering a step-down from Davidoff in price while maintaining the same commitment to Dominican craftsmanship and quality construction. All Griffin's cigars are made in the Dominican Republic with Connecticut shade wrappers over all-Dominican filler and binder, producing the mild, refined, and consistent profile that defines the line.
The portfolio in this database spans the full range of Griffin's production, from the numbered classic series (No. 200 through No. 500), the Prestige, Privilege, and Piramides formats, the Fuerte series using Ecuadorian wrappers for a slightly fuller profile, and annual Special Edition releases tied to Roman numerals. The XX, XXI, and XXII Special Editions, using Ecuadorian wrappers and Mexican binders over Dominican filler, stepped up in complexity and price from the everyday lineup. Both natural and maduro expressions are offered across several vitola formats, with the maduro versions using Connecticut Broadleaf.
