"Great Cigar"
I bought a box of these and tried one and will let the others age based on others recommendations about how these get so much better with age. The taste is certainly different from any cigar I have tried in the past. It almost had a Coke flavor and was relatively sweet. I did have some burn problems which always seem to pop up for me with Fuetne's but it didn't have any impact on the flavor

Great loooking cigar. Very strong even after 4 years of aging. Cedar is the dominate feature of this stick. Burned good, but not worth $18.50. The Padron 1926 #9 that cost the same was a much better smoke.

"Why do I bother?"
I don't get the Opus mystique. I haven't had one for a good 3-4 years and was hoping my past experiences would be laid to rest. Unfortunately this is not the case. As those I have had in the past these two samples were deja vu. Great looking, beautiful wrapper, tremendous potential for flavor but horrible burn. When I think Opus I think torch maintenance. As usual there was a lot of great flavor that was hindered by continually having to set the thing ablaze in effort to get it burning 360 degrees. Even the ones I have seen other smoke had an off kilter burn. Too many awesome cigars out there to plunk down this kinda dough to be frustrated with it. I'll stick with the Hemingway's and Don Carlos in the Fuente arsenal and go with Cubans, La Flor, and Padron when I want a stellar full bodied smoke.

"Well aged"
I bought this recent one back in August 2004, it's been in my 65% humidor ever since. I have to say that while I like these brand new, the rest this one had changed it a lot. It tasted like a whole different cigar, very complex flavors, extremely smooth. It lasted about an hour and a half. In all, this aged Opus was nothing short of SPECTACULAR. I wish all cigars tasted like this one did...

"Round big flavor"
Smoked only two of these to be sure but so far so good: this is a confident cigar, it has its own style, nothing to prove and a lot to show you. Whut...? I mean that like other great stogies it's got superb construction and a real distinct flavor experience. This is a full bodied smoke that'd be more milk than dark chocolate but oh damn, a half-hour after letting the last inch expire and I'm still genuinely stoked on the aftertaste. Who should give this cigar a try? Anyone who wants a full-on experience that is geniune and different from some other top-tier smokes (Padron 1926, Ashton VSG, etc). Why not a 10? The burn was great but not perfect (some flaking, irregularity) and it doesn't have the translucent beauty of some other smokes, but, these are minor issues. Value is a 10 because you get what you pay for: it's as complex as a good movie, takes as long to smoke, and costs damn near as much. Great credit belongs to cigar manufacturers for caring enough to craft cigars like this.

"a little fresh"
I got 5 of these for 60$, I work at a local shop. Smoked one 5mins ago after only a week of humi time, and was not impressed. I have smoked one with 4+ years much better. Very sweet veggie taste with a little cedar and spice the whole stick. Great draw and smoke just wasnt blown away with great flavor. I did experience a good buzz which is rare but that was all it had going for it.

I only paid 12 for it, but I would spend 20$ for my Graycliff Prof, any day compared to this. Overall everything was top shelf but a week and non complex flavor held it back.

"Just plain ugly!!! Hopefully just a bad one!!"
This cigar actually gave a new definition to bad cigar in my mind. It had a woody and spicy core which made you feel like you were pouring jalapeño juice on your tongue from the start. Then towards the middle it became very harsh, and stayed that way until I couldn’t bear it any longer and had to put the thing out. The ash was nasty and flakey and it split right down the middle as I was smoking it. It burned extremely uneven and I had to keep relighting it to try and keep it even. The wrapper seemed a little spotty and not as appealing as many of the other Opus’s I have seen. The smoke was nice and thick, but the flavors never developed so it was just hot and then gross. The draw was also relatively tight through out the entire cigar Many people warned me that the Opus X was an overrated cigar, but nothing anybody could have said would have prepared me for one of the worst cigars I have ever smoked. Now I really feel sorry for those people who paid thirty bucks for this cigar. Next time somebody offers me one of these I might be tempted to see if anyone has some Swisher Sweets instead.

"above average dominican cigar"
opus robusto:this is above average dominican product.construction is good, some burn problems and white flaky ash which personally drives me crazy,i hate flaky ash.these sticks are fruity with good stronger finish and excellent draw, zero complexity, basically same taste all the way but its pretty good but not worth 20$ per stick.the only better dominican cigars that i had are fuente anejo 55 and davidoff millenium lonsdale.i was not impressed at all with these and actually very dissapointed, someone left a review saying that these are better than cuban cohiba robusto,i say they are not even close to cohiba, they are not even on the same planet, they are dog rackets comparing to cohibas.i dont understand the hype.i would never trade 10 cohibas for 30 of this,no way.imho the only best thing about them is prelight smell of these sticks, that is the best smelling cigar i ever smelled, like honey ginger bread or something close it,heavenly.i wish all cigars could smell as good as opus x robusto.

"Finally tried it!!"
After 5 years of smoking cigars I finally went out and bought one of these suckers to see what all the hype has been about. I have to say that the appearance of this cigar was just awesome. Paid the $14 at my local cigar shop. Went home and lit this bad boy up. The flavors of this cigar were superb. I have never tasted a cigar like this. It was very creamy and spicy throughout. It burned evenly and never went out. The draw was definitely a bit tight. Well, I was finally able to smoke one of these but I am scratching my head over the price. Overall it was definitely a great smoke!! Unfortunately for the price this one will have to be one of those special occasion smokes once or twice a year.

It is not even close to the CAO Brazila Amazon or the even better priced JDN Antano Consul.

One of the better cigars I've smoked, and it's in the top 5 of my personal ratings. Tons of flavor with an awesome draw and burn. No sudden spice attacks, but an underlying spiciness throughout. Delightful after-taste as well. But I have to say, they were $11 bucks a stick at my local cigar shop, and I've had plenty of $5 - $7 cigars I would turn to first on the flavor vs value scale.

"Spellbinding..."
world class construction, beautiful draw, a complex flavor bomb, yet not ridiculous on the spice...outstanding in every way.

Somehow, I must have smoked the wrong cigar...it would seem that some Opus X's must have CRACK in them, because the last "aficianado" rated it a 3 in flavor (that is an "In law gift" by the rating guide). They also rated it a 1 in value...Bro, if you can't afford them, don't smoke them. This is a world class cigar...maybe not as good as some of your snobby a$$ CUBANS...but damn good in my book. BTW...I have some Cuban Monte #2s, some Cohiba Siglo 2s and some Partagas Serie D #4s in my humi...and they can hang with them. A different breed...but still very tasty.

"Don't swallow the Hype"
Brought back one of these from the Dominican (along with quite a few boxes of Cubans). Being an almost exclusive cuban cigar smoker I had yet to find ANY Dominican cigar which even comes close to a mediocre Cuban. After three months in my humi I finally lit it up on a 5 hour road trip. Pre light was nice a little spicy, but nothing special. Taste was smooth but one dimensional and flat. I had smoke some LG's and La Flor 's in the Dominican and believe me those are so strong they kick like a mule. Well so does this one except not in a nice way. There seems to be no flavour to dominican cigars. This OpusX was harsh and unflavourful just like all the rest of the Dominicans. Luckily I had brought my travel humi and quickly popped out a Montecristo #2 >>pure heaven! Went back and forth on both cigars from the trip. I can faithfully say after having tried the top ten Dominican cigars not one even comes close to a cuban Romeo (bought a box of Dominican Romeo's rated 92>>yeah right! or a Partagas Deluxe, Trinidad Fundadores, Cohiba or Bolivar. They should have 2 separate rating systems, a 92 rated Dominican and a 92 rated Cuban are world's apart) Anyhoo I used to purchase Domican's as day smokes cause they were so much cheaper but in the end they bring me no joy! I would gladly walk a mile for a Cuban. Opus ? Not worth the hype. (sorry needed to add Dominican cigar construction are probably the best out there but who cares about construction if the flavour's not there?

The Opus X line of cigars never disappoints when properly aged (one to two years once you get your hands on them). This robusto size offerred the classic Opus X experience. In short, classy. Construction and draw were flawless. Strength was just about right after sixteen months in the humidor (still quite strong). To me, flavor is secondary for these cigars. Pleasantly spicy, but not much else. If you crave quality and mystique, you will be thrilled with this cigar.

"Chemical overtones"
The gold embossed cellophane slid off to reveal the signature Rosado glow of the Opus wrapper, gleaming with oil and showing a hint of faint tooth. The band, as always, was spectacular with its burst of multicolored splendor, gold leaf, and impressive embossing. The cigar was impeccably turned out, with a crisp well executed roll and a perfect triple cap, and it had a nice pre light nose of spice and cedar.

The Zino took off a perfect eighth of an inch and the pre light draw was medium firm. There was an unusual pre light taste of plastic, and when the match was applied the falvor that came forth was interesting, tainted with a chemical overtone that stampeded over the spice and leather of the Opus blend. In addition to the source of the chemical flavor another mystery soon developed; where was the smoke? Puff after puff resulted in anemic production that left me scratching my head. After a few inches the draw closed down and drawing even this tiny amount of smoke through became a chore. The light gray ash was beautiful and perfectly formed, and the burn, such as it was, clean and straight.

After the first two bizarre inches the spice fought its way through to the front and the cigar developed a bit, medium bodied and slightly more complex, but the chemical flavor remained in the background to taunt me. The aroma the cigar threw off was nice and balanced and pure tobacco, but the finish had a grassy taste and was very acidic in nature. The ice water I had with the cigar did nothing to cleanse the aftertaste, nor did it help with the meth lab flavors the cigar insisted on delivering.

Overall this was a beautiful cigar with lovely construction and presentation, but this sample was obviously defective. The acidic finish and chemical overtones simply spoiled the experience. I don’t know what caused this aberration, but I’ll try another example in a few days when my taste buds recover a bit. Not recommended based on this sample.

"worth every penny"
try this cigar with a single malt scotch. outstanding. I don't even drink liquor but the way the scotch cleans your palate in order to prepare your mouth for what's to come is just fantastic! The first one I smoked had an uneven burn to it about halfway through but it did not go out or effect the taste of the cigar. I didn't have to ash throughout the entire cigar.
My only complaint, if you can call it that, is the price. If you can find these for less than $15 a stick buy them all!

"7 smoked - all Excellent - Not overrated."
I've had seven of these now. Every one was excellent. These are strong cigars - full bodied - a myriad of flavors dance across your tongue as you draw on what is, without question, the best looking cigar made. The construction was superb - excellent draw, even burn, beautiful ash. The flavor was on par with Montecristo #2.

I love the consistancy you get with an Opus X. So long as you keep them in a humidor for a few months to ensure they are propery humidified, you are nearly guaranteed the same excellent experience. Especially with this shape!

"Always a great cigar"
This was one of the finest cigars I have had in awhile. The cigar had a great, oily wrapper, a flawless construction, a tast the the Opus is known for, and a burn that was nearly perfect. I truely enjoyed smoking this cigar.

"Disappointed"
So much is said about the fabulous "Opus". I tried it for the second time the other day and here's what I found after iving this stick a second chance...The burn was awful and uneven the entire smoke. In fact, the entire smoke was half the cigar because the runners were too long. The smoke was thick and lush and it was full flavored and spicy, however, the flavor lacked depth and was woody and tasted "burnt". Fuente's Diamond Crown Maximus is a much preferred alternative.

"outstanding cigar"
I purchased this cigar believing that I would be thoroughly unimpressed as I usually am by any heavily hyped cigar. I was, however, wrong. This cigar is outstanding. The wrapper was silky and oily with a peppery prelight taste. Flavor is rich and smooth with toasty meaty flavors and hints of pepper. This cigar does not require aging to improve it. Finish was very heavy on the palate. Only complaint was terrible burn. The cigar would not stay lit which I attribute to over humidification from the tobacconist. I do not think the burn problem was the result of poor construction. I will purchase another one and let it sit for a few days in my humidor before I smoke it to make sure I am right about the humidity.

"good.... real good"
The only Fuente product I've smoked that really impressed me. It has the body, depth and character of a good Cuban. Why do they play marketing games with this cigar and make it so difficult to find/purchase? Burn was a little erratic (like a Cuban!) but draw was great. Powerful!

"Outstanding"
I've never believed the hype on OpusX, but this cigar was excellent. A classic. Only problem is the size: I smoked it to the nub, wanted more.

"Gets better with age"
The current boxes are shipping with humipouches that are leaving them wetter than usual. I found that a couple of hours out of the humidor will do wonders for this cigar. This cigar will literaly knock you on your @$$! It was wonderful smoke that was very refined. I can't wait to try it again next year and the year after that and the year after that...

"The oils..."
The oils in this cigar is what makes it great. It just has a big dark flavor. This is my favorite opusX size.
